Hunan Mifen San Mateo Reviews

First time trying this spot and it's teriffic Service is super attentive and accommodating with our toddler, kids water cup & kid friendly utensils/bowl. Food comes very fast, orders are placed via qr code. Fried stinky tofu sits in a spicy broth, great spice level, tofu is stinky and crispy, served hot Spicy beef rib noodle, beef is served on the side as the spicy sauce is super hot, that way you can use and adjust the spice as you need. Don't pour the whole thing in unless you're feeling spicy Beef and preserved veg noodles, as indicated, it's not spicy but fragrant. Pretty good portion of rice noodles. Really enjoyed our noodles here, will return

Warm and comforting noodles! The mifen has a very nice and unique texture and rea)y helps ties the flavours of the dishes together! We got the braised beef ribs with pickled mustard, and the hunan beans and minced pork. Both were good, but I would recommend soup dishes for sure! They have self serve cilantro and green onions as garnishes, and so would definitely recommend loading up if you want to further enhance the flavours!

I'm sad that they got rid of their Special Beef noodles because that was my favorite but overall their food is still top tier and I never leave here unsatisfied. Their new Beef Cheek noodles are the next best thing, my boyfriend ordered that and I tried it, reminded me the most of the Special Beef. I ordered the Mashed Peas and Minced Pork because it looked interesting and it was great too! I think I preferred the beef cheek because the mashed peas made this one feel heartier but it was still really good. Also ordered their edamames and deep fried pork, both were really great. This place never has a wait and the staff are all really friendly even when it gets busy!

Super good noodle soup that not only satisfies the occasional craving, but leaves me super duper content. This is the ultimate Chinese noodle soup soul food! The restaurant is located in a busy area of San Mateo. You might have to hunt for parking, but if you're willing to park a block or two away, shouldn't be hard to find. There was virtually no wait on a Saturday afternoon. Menu is viewable and orders placed through QR code on the table. Staff are available to help out if you have questions. Menu is available in English or Chinese with detailed pictures and descriptions. Very clean restaurant with plentiful seating--they can easily do groups up to 10 by putting tables together. The bus boy was hard at work keeping everything tidy and occasionally helping patrons with their requests. There is also a self-serve "sauce bar" with chopped cilantro and scallions on ice, black Chinkiang vinegar and iced water. My husband and I had the rice noodles with braised beef and pickled cabbage. The noodle bowls are a generous portion with very tender, deliciously spiced meat in a small separate bowl. This one comes pretty mild that I think most folks including children will be able to tolerate the spice level. It was just SO good and savory! I was not able to finish my bowl, but my husband was. The rice noodles were medium round, slightly bouncy texture, that picked up the broth flavor well. Excellent change of pace from ramen or pho for when you're really craving comforting noodle soup. I will definitely return to try the other noodle soups!

First time trying my friend's favorite noodles spot today. She has tried almost every single dishes they serve there. She is a huge fan!! I got combo A and she has the shredded pork with something (I forgot). We got stinky tofu as well. I am not sure why put everything on a separate plate instead of putting them in the bowl of noodles. I could see they would serve the crispy pork bits on a separate plate as it will get soggy in the soup. But why the veggies and beef?? Anyway, we have way too much food for the two of us. We have leftover to bring home. I truly enjoy this meal. The broth is great and it doesn't seem to have a lot of MSG. I love rice noodles, so it's A+ for me. I will absolutely come back with my family!

Upon scrolling the decision was IMMEDIATELY made when I came across the stinky tofu. Stinky Tofu - Packed with flavor, crispy with a kick Mochi coated in peanut powder - This goes well with the stinky tofu sauce I recommend getting a combo because it comes with everything, noodle soup, veggies, meat and a side dish. Anyways, I'd definitely recommend y'all stop by when you're in the area

Parking is relatively easy and location is on 25th surrounded by other restaurants and small shops. It's mostly 2 hour parking spots so it's not too difficult to secure a spot. Interior was really clean and quite spacious. We were seated right away and thankfully, we arrived around 11:45AM on a weekend. When we finished and left after an hour, the place was completely filled with several parties waiting outside. One orders food from the QR code on the table. Food came out super quickly upon ordering. I opted for the Combination A that comes with vegetables, a choice of appetizer, Soup noodles (spicy or non-spicy), and braised beef. The noodle texture was SO GOOD and very chewy! I'm a huge fan of it. Unfortunately, the Braised House Tofu was WAY too salty. I dropped it into the noodle soup to try to dilute out the saltiness but it was still too salty. Regardless, the noodles were a good amount of chewiness and I enjoyed the soup. Lastly, the stinky tofu flavor was very decent! It reminded me of the stinky tofu in Taiwan! If you're looking for soup noodles, I would definitely give Hunan Mifen a try!

We came here on a Tuesday night at around 615p. There was no wait but it did get pretty busy around 645p. The place itself isn't the cleanest but it is newer. The menu and ordering is completely online. Super easy to order for the table. The meat/spiciness and the noodles with soup come separately so don't be afraid to try something spicier cause you can control the spice! They also have a condiment station of fresh green onions, cilantro, chili oil, and cut up chili peppers. We ordered a couple of things. Combos come with an appetizer you choose from 6 and a side of either cabbage or green bean soup. It's a good deal if you are getting an appetizer on the list! Beef and pickled mustard greens noodles 4/5 The beef is soft and delicious. It gives the broth a nice beefy flavor and goes well with the spice. Could be spicier though! The noodles are perfectly chewy and there is a lot in this bowl! Tempting to try to eat the whole bowl on your own. Braised pig intestine and bamboo noodles 3.5/5 Same broth and noodles and darn pickled mustard greens. For me, it tastes too much like the intestines so I'm biased but totally worth trying if you like intestines. I loved the bamboo shoot though. Crispy fried fish 5/5 These are perfectly fried crispy and lightly salted. Delightful little snack and they give you quite a bit! The side sichuan spice powder could use a little more flavor or salt. Salty crispy chicken 4/5 Also fried well. This was tasty Taiwanese style popcorn chicken. Could be slightly larger chicken pieces. Poached farm fresh vegetable 3/5 This is literally just boiled cabbage. Preserved eggs with grind peppers 2/5 My least favorite dish. The eggs should be sliced to absorb the soy sauce based sauce. Didn't really have good flavor and just wasn't a cohesive dish. Overall, I would definitely come back to enjoy the hot noodles on a cold or rainy day. They were delicious and super filling.

The food is good, some can be a little spicy. I had the tomato soup base and it was great. The stinky tofu lacks some flavor but the popcorn chicken a little oily but still tasty. The server was nice and offered good service. The place is clean and neat, very nice for a meal.
